Match anglers busy over Christmas period…
The holiday period proved busy with several open matches on both sides of the river.
Christmas Fayre match at Jackson’s Corner, hosted by Skegness Pier S.A.C.
Winner Karl Nangle used ‘smelly’ bait and 3-hook rigs at range. The match was fished on a neap tide and in bright sunshine.
Results:
1. Karl Nangle – 10lb 7oz – 14 whiting, 6 dabs
2. Dave Shorthouse – 6lb 10.5oz – 10 whiting, 2 dabs
3. Mark Holmes – 4lb 13oz – 3 whiting, 6 dabs
4. Russ Taylor – 3lb 4oz – 3 whiting, 3 dabs
5. Deano Sumner – 2lb 6.5oz – 2 whiting, 4 dabs
Heaviest Round – Mark Holmes – 13.5oz whiting
Heaviest Flat – Karl Nangle – 14oz dab
Biggest Fish Rover, Mablethorpe to Gibraltar Point
Dean Sumner was easy winner with a cod of 2.6kg, which was more than a kilo clear of second place. Alex Collingwood and Richard Leighton tied second spot with identical codling of 1.4 kilos. The match was fished in rough conditions with a strong onshore wind.

4. Paul Marshall – 1kg cod
The Yorkshire coast played host to several matches. Reckitts SAC had a Christmas Pairs match which was won by Ron Chapman and Paul McColin with a combined weight of 5.6kg. Chris Wray and Phil Harrison were second, while Carl Mathews and Paul Broderick came third.
Honsea SAC had the New Year Open, but the decision to over low water did not suit some favoured marks. Neville Charlesworth was top man with a 3.14kg cod from Grimston. Second was Paul Gillbank with a 3.06kg cod from Hilston, and third was Paul Linguard 2.89kg from East Newton. Fish were caught from a wide variety of marks and the heaviest bag of 4.74kg came from Out Newton.
The Lincolnshire coast has been producing some quality fish for the pleasure anglers, with the Trustthorpe area has been very popular fishing the tide from low water.
Boats: The Humber Cod Open received a poor turn out. Mick Kinnaird landed the biggest cod of 5lb 6oz. Bill Sheppard was and Jim Greer third. The biggest bag fell to Jim Greer. Junior angler J. Dolby braved the weather and caught a flounder for the junior prize. The low attendance comes amidst talk of a group of anglers boycotting the boat matches due to the current payout set up. This is one reason why the new ‘friendly’ club is to be set up. The meeting at the Kent Arms on Tuesday the 6th January at 7pm promises to be interesting.
