Last weekend saw the three-man team event being fished on the Humber.
At the start of the match length top Hull based angler Chris Mack was having a field day he was the other side of the pipeline and could not stop catching he was top man on the day with 416cm. He easily won zone A.
In zone B it was a veteran angler Ian Hunt that showed the youngsters how to do it in impressive style. He kept varying his bait and distance to pick up fish at most times throughout the match.
Richard Leek was in sizzling form with a top class performance which earned him top place in zone C and valuable points for the winning team. Richard teamed up with Neville Charlesworth and Simon Drayton as the Neville Charlesworth Aces. With a top star billing they certainly delivered the goods.
The second team was a last minute formation but they did not leave it until the last minute to catch with the ever improving Derek ‘Del Boy’ Miles at the helm they were steered in the right direction, ably assisted by Geoff Hill and Mick Crawford, brilliant to see Mick again and he has definitely not the lost the habit of catching fish.
Third and very well deserved place went to the team of P. Greaves, D Greaves and Andrew Roffee.
I am afraid it was fourth place again for Ackos team which included John Atkinson, Jeff Volley and myself. Well done to Acko and the boys for organising a very good match
I am hoping that local support the forthcoming Smoothhound Open in a few weeks time. Please let Jez Waters or George’s Tackle Box or Cleethorpes Angling Centre know if you are fishing and they will pass the information on to Jez. Jez has been extremely busy at work and has been unable to answer some of his calls. He has presently got over 40 anglers booked into fish, but the organisers want to know numbers as they have to peg the beach before-hand.
On the Saturday night before the trios it was Humber SAC in action at East Halton. It was a real struggle and the fish did not want to play. First was match regular Steve Robinson who had 14 1/2 oz. Second with just 11oz it was Mick Kinnaird and proving that he can catch fish was Adie Cooper who finished third with 7oz.
The clubs next match is this Saturday at Bohemia Point please meet at 15.30hrs, the match times are 16.30 to 20.30hrs.
Bill Sheppard was showing what a good all round angler he is with a nice smoothhound off Bohemia, a fine specimen fish of 16 1/2lb caught on Monday night. There were several fish caught that night but it has been a little hit and miss, some tides they are there and others you are struggling.
The Skegness Pier Angling Club (S.P.A.C.) Lincolnshire Pairs match was held from Chapel Six Marsh and resulted in a 3 way tie, with the top three pairs all ending up on 4 Zone points. Final placing had to be decided on total fish length, with Kettering’s Dave and Josh Shorthouse coming out on top, catching 6 flounders measuring 166cm.
Top Grimsby pairing Jim Greer and Karl Nangle took second place, with a 4 flounder catch for 114cm. Close behind in third were the new pairing of Holbeach based Adrian Crane and match organiser Chas Tibble, who winkled out 4 flounders between them for 113cm.
Junior angler Josh was the individual winner for the second year on the trot, with his dad also taking the heaviest flatfish award, for a 35cm flounder. Completing the line up of prize winners was S.P.A.C. stalwart, Boston’s Mo Fendyke, whose 27cm bass was the only eligible fish caught for the heaviest round fish prize.
Next S.P.A.C. event is a Festival Open Match, which will be held on Saturday 4 July from 4 till 8pm at Mogg’s Eye. For further information contact Chas Tibble on 07984 967988 or chastibble@hotmail.com.
