New Norwegian Shore Competition

by David Proudfoot

Skarnsundet Fjordsentre is hosting its first Norwegian shore fishing festival, based on the format of the tremendously popular Alderney angling festival. The venue is well known for its catches of big cod, haddock and coalfish as well as being a popular venue for shore caught halibut.

The festival will be held over a 5 day period 16th -20th with two weigh-in sessions per day. The anglers are advised to arrive on the 15th, as this will give them one full day for a pleasure-fishing recce and to be shown the most popular marks by Phill Dale, the resort guide.

The festival will have no boundaries other than the fact that all fish must be shore caught. There will be eight categories of prizes in total to fish for during the five-day period. Six of the prize categories are based on the heaviest of a nominated species, cod, pollack, coalfish, haddock, plaice and dab with each having a varying minimum qualifying weight.

In addition, there are prizes for the heaviest fish caught during the event and for the most number of species from a nominated list of 22 fish.

Each category will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

1st = 150 pounds + Trophy

2nd = 75 pound + Shield

3rd = 25% discount on a holiday at Skarnsundet Fjordsentre

In addition, anyone catching a new Norwegian shore record during the Festival will win a holiday package at the Fjordsentre, all you have to do is get there.

On arrival at Skarnsundet, you will recieve a welcome park, which will include all the information for the festival and a set of maps directing you the most popular marks in the area.

You must fill out a registration form, which will be available shortly for download, to register for the festival and Phill must have received it four weeks before the start of the festival.

On the night of the 20th, we will be having the presentation evening. This will be held in the local hotel and an evening meal can be booked at this venue prior to the 7:30pm start.

The entry fee is a very reasonable 500 Nowegian Kroner, £58 at today’s exchange rate and a package deal covering seven day’s accommodation and entry fee is available for 2250 NoK. Flights to Trondheim are available through Norwegian Airlines or KLM. The Fjordsentre is about an hour and twenty minute drive from the airport and car hire is available through Rent-a-Wreck.
